Applications Now Open: Become a 2025–2026 Penn IUR Fellow in Urban Leadership

Are you a rising junior or senior passionate about shaping the future of cities? The Penn IUR Fellows in Urban Leadership Program is now accepting applications for the 2025–2026 academic year. This prestigious, yearlong fellowship connects a select group of undergraduates with high-level leaders in government, business, and the civic sector to explore pressing urban challenges.
Each month, Fellows participate in small, candid conversations with leaders on the front lines of urban issues, discussing topics like affordable housing, transportation, city finance, environmental resilience, and public health. Past speakers have included former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, District 3 Council Member Jaime Gauthier, urban specialists from the World Bank, and executives from Citibank and major city agencies.
Designed to inspire and empower the next generation of urban changemakers, the program offers unparalleled mentorship, professional insight, and a close-knit community of peers equally committed to building more equitable and sustainable cities.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
Be rising juniors or seniors (exceptional sophomores may also apply)
Demonstrate academic excellence
Show a clear interest in urban issues
Commit to participating for the full academic year
Application Requirements
A 500-word essay on your interest in urban issues
Most recent transcript
One faculty recommendation letter
Semi-finalists will be interviewed in early June, and selected Fellows will be notified by the end of the month.
